It’s Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week

Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week is taking place this week and this year’s online campaign features cricketing heroes Mark Wood, Michael Vaughan and Heather Knight.

During the week, there will be videos published each morning at 9AM on Chance to Shine’s social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) and website, as well as here.

Share your photos and videos on social media using #NationalCricketWeek for a chance to win some fantastic prizes including lots of Yorkshire Tea!

Friday 26 June - All-Rounder Challenge

This is a race against the clock to see if you can be a top all-rounder!

You’ll need to be a Super Striker, a Brilliant Bowler and a Cool Catcher to see if you can rack up a high score.

Kent and England Cricketer Sam Billings will talk you through the challenge.

LEARN - Cricket Ball Cupcakes

One of the most famous parts of the game of cricket is a proper Cricket Tea! It’s a chance to stop half way through to reflect on the game so far, to chat to your team-mates and the opposition and of course to re-fuel!

This recipe is for some stunning cricket ball cupcakes but it is important to remember that these should be eaten as part of a balanced diet. Make sure that your cricket tea is nutritious and incorporates all of the important food groups.

Thursday 25 June - Top of Off

Thursday’s challenge is presented by England Captain Heather Knight. This activity requires a bit of patience and skill but is key becoming a successful bowler. 

The aim to is knock a tea bag off the top of off stump. It might sound simple, but it will only count if the ball hits the tea bag itself! 

LEARN - A Geogra-tea lesson!

This lesson looks at countries around that world that grow tea and play cricket!

It’s great way to use cricket to inspire learning.

Wednesday 24 June - Cricket-Fit

One of the greatest female cricketers of all time, England’s Ashes, World Cup and World T20 winning captain Charlotte Edwards will take you through the Cricket-Fit Session.

LEARN - Life's better with...

This session aims to raise awareness of the things that children can do to improve their self-esteem and support their mental health.

There are two activities in this session designed to be delivered together and supported by a PowerPoint presentation.

Tuesday 23 June - Last Batter Stands

Chance to Shine have got another England great in Ashes-winning skipper Michael Vaughan to show you how to take on this challenge that will test your concentration and resilience.

The Cricket World Cup Final 2019 was one of the most exciting games of cricket ever played. The match at Lord’s was a thriller that ended in Eoin Morgan’s England side winning their first ever World Cup trophy.

Today’s literacy lesson is to write a newspaper report of the game, imagining it is the morning after the final. Check out the session plan for adaptations for KS1, KS2 and KS3.

Monday 22 June - Strictly Come Catching

This is a catching challenge with a twist – encouraging children to explore different throwing and catching techniques. Star fast-bowler Mark Wood is on hand to talk you through this one.

Learn - Make your own cricket set

Today we have a great arts and crafts session to give you some ideas on making your own equipment to use during Yorkshire Tea National Cricket Week.

There are three main items to make: a bat, ball and stumps. This session will encourage children to consider what materials they can use from around the house.
