George Drissell struck an unbeaten 49 for South Northumberland in their successful chase of 128 against Hetton Lyons in the North East Premier League Premier Division. Drissell took one wicket to wrap up the Lyons’ innings on 127 at Roseworth Terrace before leading the way with 49* from just 27 balls with five fours and three maximums as the hosts won by six wickets.
Faizan Ghumman made 32 for Tynemouth at Chester Road in a four-wicket defeat to Burnmoor. Opening the batting, Ghumman hit five boundaries in his 61-ball stay at the crease before the visitors finished 161 for nine in 45 overs. The hosts managed victory inside 31 overs with four wickets remaining.
60 from 106 balls for Luke Symington helped Norton to 7-wicket win over Bishop Auckland in the North Yorkshire South Durham Premier Division. Norton won the toss and elected to field, restricting Bishop Auckland to 181 from their 50 overs, with Teddy Minto picking up 3/23. Norton lost two early wickets but 60 from Symington and 81 not out from Joe Emmerson guided the home side to victory in 43 overs.
Scott Borthwick claimed 3/43 for Hartlepool but they fell to a 86 run defeat to Stokesly at Park Drive. Stokesley batted first after losing the toss and made 199 all out from 47.1 overs – with Borthwick the pick of the bowlers. In reply Hartlepool were well short being dismissed for 113 and losing by 86 runs.
Ghumman made an impact with the ball on Friday night at Jesmond, in Tynemouth’s 23-run win in the North East Premier League T20. After being bowled out for 131, the visitors managed to dismiss Newcastle for 108, helped by Ghumman’s figures of 2/27 as the Preston Avenue-based side secured victory.
Haydon Mustard made 38 on Friday for Shotley Bridge in their 51-run T20 victory over Tynedale at The Spa Grounds. Opening the batting, Mustard got the Bridge off to a strong start in an opening stand of 84 as he struck six boundaries in his 24-ball innings.
The hosts posted 187/3 before restricting Tynedale 136/5 in 20 overs.
