Durham Cricket to hold Disability Cricket One-Day Camps at Seat Unique Riverside

Durham Cricket will be running FREE Disability Cricket One-Day Camps during the schools’ summer holidays, giving more opportunities to young people with disabilities to get involved in the sport.

The days will offer free coaching and a unique experience to play the game at the home of Durham Cricket – Seat Unique Riverside, while aiming to introduce dozens of young people with disabilities to cricket.

The days are specifically designed to meet the diverse needs of children and young people with all types of disabilities – each activity is adapted to fit the abilities and requirements of the participants.

Participants will learn cricket’s basics through fun games, focusing on batting, bowling and fielding, designed to improve balance and hand-eye coordination. The goal is to provide a learning experience that is enjoyable, while benefiting the participant in a number of other ways.

The days aim to provide a platform for children and young people with disabilities to develop their social and interpersonal skills, increase their self-esteem and confidence in a friendly and supportive environment.

The holiday camps are part of Durham Cricket’s Disability cricket offer, which, in partnership with the ECB and Lord’s Taverners, runs free weekly sessions across the county all year-round.

A pathway through the Durham’s existing projects will be available for participants who would like to continue to play on a regular basis, free of charge.
