Durham Cricket Foundation Launches Women’s Coaching Pathway Following Fully Booked Pilot

Durham Cricket Foundation will hold another coaching course for women following the overwhelming success of a pilot initiative in August.

The pilot – a free ECB Support Coach course for women at Seat Unique Riverside – reached full capacity within 24 hours of being announced, with a significant waiting list demonstrating the strong demand for female coaching opportunities.

In response, the Foundation has organised an ECB Foundation Coach course exclusively for women – entry-level qualification for aspiring coaches looking to deliver sessions independently and the next step from the Support Coach qualification.

The Foundation Coach Course will take place at the Riverside Indoor Hall across four evenings, running on Tuesdays 30 September, 7, 14 and 21 October 2025 from 6:00–9:00pm.

As part of the launch, Durham Cricket Foundation will host an Information Evening on Thursday 18 September. The event will give players, clubs and prospective coaches the chance to learn more about the course and the coaching pathway, ask questions and hear first-hand from those delivering the ECB-accredited programme.

Through these opportunities the Foundation aims to inspire more women to see coaching as a natural next step in their cricket journey, whether as players, volunteers or parents, while supporting the rapid growth of the female game across the region.

The success of the pilot Support Coach course in August reflects the wider growth of women’s and girls’ cricket in Durham. In the past four years, the number of girls’ teams has more than doubled (from 37 in 2021 to 80 in 2024), while the number of women’s fixtures has tripled in the last year alone (from 86 in 2023 to 275 in 2024).

To ensure opportunities remain accessible, bursaries are available to help cover course costs. More information on bursary support can be found here.

This course forms part of the Foundation’s wider Coach Education Programme which provides a full pathway of opportunities for aspiring coaches at all levels. A full list of available coaching courses can be found here.
