Sean Dickson joins on two-year deal

Durham Cricket is delighted to announce the signing of Kent opening batsman Sean Dickson on a two-year deal.

Dickson will join the club on loan for the remainder of Durham’s 2020 season and will be eligible to play in both red and white ball formats this summer.

Dickson joins Durham, having made 120 appearances for Kent since joining the club in 2015, scoring 10 first class centuries throughout his career.

The right-handed batsman recorded Kent’s highest post-War first-class total in 2017, amassing 318 runs against Northamptonshire in the County Championship at The County Ground, Beckenham.

He was also part of the side that reached the 2018 Royal London One-Day Cup Final at Lord’s, and also Kent’s promotion-winning side back to Division One of the Championship that same year.

The 28-year-old is seen as one of the best fielders on the county circuit and took 39 catches for Kent in the 2018 season, being named the clubs fielder of the year the previous summer.

Director of Cricket, Marcus North said: “We’re delighted that Sean has signed for Durham and we have been able to secure the signature of a proven performer in English Cricket.

“Sean’s record in first-class cricket is exceptional, with a track record of scoring big hundreds and a reputation as one of the best fielders in the country, he will bring additional experience and quality to the Durham squad.

“We look forward to welcoming Sean to the North East and seeing him make a big impact at Emirates Riverside.”

Durham Cricket can also confirm that James Weighell and Ben Whitehead will leave the club when their contracts expire.

Weighell made his first-class debut in 2015 against Middlesex and went onto make 15 first-class appearances for the club during that time, claiming 52 wickets and scoring 502 runs.

The right-handed bowler’s most memorable moment for the club came against Leicestershire in 2018, where he produced a match-winning spell of 7-32 to inspire Durham to a 46-run win in the Specsavers County Championship.

Leg spinner, Ben Whitehead has also left the club. The 23-year-old made six appearances for Durham all coming in the Vitality T20 Blast, picking up five wickets with a best of 2/23 against Lancashire.

Director of Cricket, Marcus North, said: “We would like to wish both James and Ben the very best for their future careers and thank them for their commitment to Durham Cricket.”
