Michael Jones added to Scotland World Cup squad for final two games

Durham and Scotland top order batter Michael Jones has been added to Scotland’s squad for the final two ICC Men’s T20 World Cup games, replacing the injured Josh Davey.

The Event Technical Committee at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has approved Scotland’s request to add travelling reserve Michael Jones to their playing squad as a replacement for injured Josh Davey.

Jones has been called up after it was decided that Davey, who missed the match against New Zealand with a groin injury, would not recover in time to play in the rest of the competition. Davey took nine wickets for Scotland during the World Cup, picking up a Player of the Match award in the victory over Oman. Travelling reserve Chris Sole has also been ruled out due to a hand injury.

Right hand batter Jones, who has played nine ODIs for Scotland, is in the UAE per the allowance for teams to travel with extra players in view of COVID-19 quarantine requirements.

“Unfortunately, Josh has been ruled out of the competition due to a persistent groin issue. He has been a top performer during this period, and we wish him a speedy recovery,” said Scotland Head Coach Shane Burger. “Chris has fractured a hand and will also be ruled out for the rest of the competition.”

Scotland have two matches left in their World Cup campaign as they play India on Friday and Pakistan on Sunday.
