Durham Cricket partner with The Mayor’s Fares initiative for cheap bus fares to Banks Homes Riverside

Durham Cricket are thrilled to announce a new partnership to highlight how fans can save money getting to the match with North East Mayor Kim McGuinness’ Mayor’s Fares discounts.

The partnership brings together the North East Combined Authority, Nexus, local bus operators and councils, who work together to promote bus travel in the region.

They have joined together with Durham Cricket for 2026 to see ‘The Mayor’s Fares’ and bus travel promoted around Banks Homes Riverside.

The partnership will see The Mayor’s Fares and bus branding displayed throughout the season across both men’s and women’s formats – offering spectators the chance to use public transport to travel throughout the region.

The Mayor’s Fares offer single journeys for £2.50 however far you travel, or full day tickets for £7.50 valid right across County Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear. People can also travel by bus across County Durham for just £6 per day.

Durham Cricket, Commercial Director, Tom Seymour said: “We’re delighted that this important transport initiative has partnered with the Club, in an exciting one-year deal.

“This new partnership enables the club to work alongside regional travel operators who do fantastic work in the region.

“We look forward to establishing a strong relationship in the coming years.”

North East Mayor Kim McGuinness said: “We have made getting the bus and Metro cheaper with the £2.50 Mayor’s Fare, and that’s all about easing hard-pressed family budgets but also supporting fabulous days out like Durham Cricket.

“With The Mayor’s Fares and our Kids Go Free deal with local bus companies during school holidays, it will be possible for a whole family to get to the cricket and back for just £10 this summer, as well as many other great attractions across the North East.”
