Durham Cricket extend deal with Durham University in long-term partnership

Durham Cricket and Durham University extend partnership to drive sport and learning in North East England

Durham Cricket and Durham University are extending their partnership, creating further benefits for sport and learning in North East England.

The new deal between two of the region’s leading institutions will run until the end of the 2029 season, bringing together high-performance sport and education.

The partnership means Durham Cricket will work directly with University’s academic experts in sport and exercise sciences and nutrition.

Durham Cricket will also provide Durham University students with workshops delivered by cricketing professionals, and guest speaker sessions on campus.

The collaboration will also bring opportunities for University students and staff, including ticket deals and match day experiences.

The University will be featured in the County’s marketing activity, including on digital screens at Banks Homes Riverside on match days.

Tom Seymour, Commercial Director at Durham Cricket, said: “We are excited to extend our deal with Durham as our university partner, and it’s great that we have been able to continue and build on our already strong links.

“We hope to be able to explore opportunities for Durham University students on and off the cricket field which will enrich their education through work-related learning and shared knowledge and facilities.

“We look forward to the year ahead.”

Dave Coldwell, Head of Sport and Physical Activity at Durham University, said: “Durham is an outstanding university for sport, from our talented student athletes to supporting grassroots and community clubs.

“Extending our partnership with Durham Cricket will offer high-value opportunities for our students, as well as further supporting the development of sport in our County and region.”

Durham University has a long history of cricketing success. The University’s alumni include former England men’s captains Sir Andrew Strauss OBE and Nasser Hussain OBE, current Pakistan men’s captain Shan Masood Khan, and former England women’s international Holly Colvin.

The University’s men’s and women’s teams regularly compete at the top of the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) championships.
