Durham Cricket Foundation Expands Wicketz with New Girls Hub in Hartlepool

More girls in Hartlepool will have the opportunity to get involved in cricket this summer as Durham Cricket Foundation expands its Wicketz programme with the launch of a dedicated Girls Hub at Seaton Carew Cricket Club.

The new hub builds on nearly a decade of Wicketz delivery in Hartlepool, where Durham Cricket Foundation thanks to support from the Lord’s Taverners, has used cricket as a tool to engage young people, strengthen communities and break down barriers to participation.

Since launching in the town in 2015, Wicketz has provided free weekly cricket sessions for young people aged 8-19, creating opportunities for those living in underserved communities to stay active, make friends and develop valuable life skills both on and off the field. The introduction of the Girls Hub marks the next step in the programme’s development, ensuring even more young people can access the benefits of community cricket.

Taking place every Monday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm at Seaton Carew Cricket Club, the free sessions will provide girls aged 8-19 with the opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and become part of a growing Wicketz community.

Sessions are open to girls of all abilities, whether they are picking up a bat for the first time or looking to develop existing skills in a supportive setting. Alongside developing cricket skills, participants are encouraged to build confidence, teamwork, communication and leadership skills that can support them both on and off the field.

The Girls Hub joins the existing mixed Wicketz session, which takes place every Monday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at Seaton Carew Cricket Club,

The programme will also culminate in a Wicketz Festival at Seaton Carew Cricket Club later this summer, bringing together participants from across the region to celebrate their achievements, enjoy friendly competition and showcase the positive impact of community cricket. The festival is scheduled to take place in August, with the date to be confirmed.
