Durham Cricket Foundation Expands Free Disability Cricket Camps Across the Region

Durham Cricket Foundation is offering free disability cricket camps during the six-week summer holidays at Banks Homes Riverside and local ECB Champion Clubs, giving young people with disabilities (ages 7–25) the chance to enjoy cricket in a fun, safe and inclusive setting.

Following the success of previous years, the 2025 sessions will now reach more communities than ever, with camps taking place in Durham, Sunderland and South Shields, creating more opportunities to play for participants across the North East.

Camps: Dates and Locations

  • 22nd July, 5th August, 19th August – Banks Homes Riverside
  • 30th July – Silksworth Cricket Club
  • 12th August – South Shields Cricket Club

All sessions run from 10am–12pm, and are led by experienced coaches and tailored to suit all abilities. The sessions are a chance to build confidence, make friends and learn new skills – all through the game of cricket. Whether it’s batting, bowling or catching – every activity is adapted so that everyone can join in.

“These sessions are about more than playing cricket – they’re about getting involved, feeling included and creating a space where every young person feels supported and part of the team,” said Daryl Smith, Disability Development Officer at Durham Cricket Foundation. “We’re excited to bring these sessions to new locations and create more opportunities for young people to be active this summer.”

No previous cricket experience is needed, just a willingness to join in and have a go. Parents and carers are welcome to stay and enjoy the day too.

The Disability Cricket Camps are part of Durham Cricket’s ongoing commitment to inclusive sport, supported by the ECB and Lord’s Taverners, with free year-round sessions also available.

Booking is essential but completely free.
