Charlotte Stubbs scores unbeaten 80 and Freya Rook stars with the ball as Durham Women’s Academy break even in back-to-back T20s against Yorkshire at Harrogate.
Game 1:
The hosts won the toss and chose to bat first as Rook struck early with a trio of early wickets to leave Yorkshire on 11 for three during the fifth over.
Rebecca Duckworth and Frances Lonsdale put on 52 together in response before Laura Trotter ended Duckworth’s stay for 28 with the Tykes on 63.
Lonsdale added 40 with Maiya Charlesworth before she was stumped off Amelie Butterwick’s bowling on 44. Charlesworth finished unbeaten on 29 as she helped the White Rose to 120/5.
Rook starred with figures of 3/12, supported by two wickets shared between Trotter and Butterwick.
Emily Whiting and Harriet Robson helped the visitors off to a solid start with the bat before both fell with Durham 54/2 at the halfway stage.
Trudy Johnson (35*) and Stubbs (32*) guided the Ds to victory with four balls to spare, sharing a 70-run stand as Durham went to an eight-wicket win.
Game 2:
After an uncontested toss, Durham batted first and despite losing Emma Thompson in the fifth over made it to 64/1 from 10 overs with Stubbs unbeaten on 48.
The England under 19’s all-rounder went to fifty from 42 balls but watched Nat Brown’s three wicket burst swing the game from the non-striker’s end as Durham lost four wickets in six overs, falling 98 for five.
Stubbs managed to add a further 30 runs, carrying her bat with an unbeaten 80 which included 10 boundaries. Johnson made 20 not out in a 44-run stand for the sixth wicket as Durham finished on 142/5.
Yorkshire openers Amelia Oliver and Erin Thomas got the hosts off to a superb start, sharing 89 inside 11 overs. Thomas made 47 from 31 before Rook made the breakthrough.
Mae Deaville claimed two in two overs but Yorkshire still looked favourites at 110/3, requiring 33 from 27 balls.
Trotter trapped Lonsdale lbw before Stubbs bowled Oliver for a run-a-ball 58 in the final over, leaving six to win from four balls. Elizabeth Fidler saw the White Rose over the line with a boundary on the penultimate ball.
Durham Women’s Academy return to action against Warwickshire on Friday 11 July in Birmingham.
