Tom Briggs (120) and Jim Twiddy (104) score centuries but Durham Boys’ Under 18s fall to agonising one-wicket defeat in their County Championship opener against Yorkshire at Stockton.
Briggs led the way on day one scoring 120 off 135 balls with 14 fours and two sixes, after bringing up three figures from 116 balls.
After Jim Twiddy opted to bat first, Durham were reduced to 103 for four – with Lucas Nixon scoring 51 from 49, but Briggs and Will Alexander (58) shared a 172-run partnership for the fifth wicket to help put a total of 352 on the board.
Charlie Richardson claimed 4/71 for the White Rose backed up by 3/41 for Rizwan Ishfaq in restricting the Young Ds on the first day.
Yorkshire managed to take a 49-run lead into the second innings, posting 402.
Visiting skipper Peter Greenfield top scored with 96 while Joe Hayes (78) and A Jenkins (63*) also made half-centuries.
Jim Twiddy picked up 4/25 from 12 overs while four wickets were shared between Teddy Minto and Max Percival.
Twiddy then became the second centurion of the match as his side cruised to 224 for two in their second innings with Faizan Ghumman adding 79 alongside him in their 126-run stand.
OG Pillinger also passed fifty with 53 from 48 balls featuring eight fours and a six before Durham fell away, being bowled out for 302 and setting Yorkshire a target of 254.
Richardson stood out again with the ball for the White Rose claiming 5/84 while Subhaan Ali picked up three scalps.
The Ds claimed regular wickets with Yorkshire making their way to 192 for six with Hayes adding 37 at the top of the order.
A seventh-wicket partnership of 51 had the visitors closing in on victory but three quickfire wickets saw Yorkshire fall from 243/6 to 247/9 as Greenfield fell for 90.
Minto claimed four wickets in vain while Twiddy took two but with just seven further runs required Yorkshire edged home with a wicket to spare.
