Luke Symington scores unbeaten 52* as Durham Second XI enjoy six wicket win over Derbyshire Second XI

An unbeaten 52 from Luke Symington in 46 balls helped guide Durham Second XI to a comprehensive six wicket win over Derbyshire Second XI at Duffield Cricket Club.

Derbyshire got off to a flyer with 49 on the board after just four overs, with Daniel Hogg picking up the first Durham wicket when Aneurin Donald skied one for 25 caught by Mitchell Killeen.

Hogg struck again in consecutive overs as David Llyod mistimed one to cover for 2 – going onto pick up 3/22 from three.

Despite Derbyshire getting off to a quick start, Durham pulled it back well restricting the hosts to 138/8.

Alongside Hogg’s three wickets, Mitchell Killeen (2/13) and Bas de Leede (2/33) struck as Derbyshire closed their 20 overs on 152/9.

Brooke Guest top scored for Derbyshire with 39 from 34 balls as the home side lost 6 wickets for 51 runs.

Like Derbyshire, Durham got off to a strong start with George Drissell and Luke Symington sharing an opening stand of 48 for the first wicket – with Drisell falling to Zak Chappell for 31 off 17 balls.

Bas de Leede added 19 but Symington’s 46 ball half-century with six fours and one maximum backed by 27 not out from Chris McBride which included three sixes, saw Durham home inside 18 overs.

The Seconds were due to play their second T20 on Tuesday at the same venue but heavy overnight rain in Belper saw the fixture called off at 11am.

Durham remain top of the North group after six games and play their next game on Friday against Yorkshire at Harrogate.
