Unbeaten 42 from Sebastian Hughes Pinan guides Durham Under 18s to 1 wicket victory over Yorkshire

Durham boys under 18s won a close encounter against Yorkshire under 18s to get their season off to a positive start.

After losing the toss and being asked to bowl by the hosts, Durham restricted Yorkshire to 180 all out in 32.5 overs, Charlie Scorer taking 4/82 and Mason Bell 3/21.

In reply, Ross Whitfield and Charlie Coulthard set about chasing the runs, adding 37 for the opening partnership before Whitfield was run out for 43.

That brought Callum Gaffney to the crease alongside Coulthard, and the pair added a further 44 before Coulthard was pinned LBW by Joshua Hen-Boisen.

Hayden Mustard and Sam Bates fell in quick succession for 2 and 0 respectively, Jawad Akhtar claiming Mustard and Hen-Boisin bowling Bates.

Hen-Boisen also claimed Luke Robinson for 1, as Durham slipped to 107-5.

Gaffney fell for an impressive 36 to Hen-Boisen and Darwood was out LBW to Akhtar for 8 as it looked like the game was slipping away from Durham, 129-7 chasing 181 for victory.

However, a vital 42* from number 8 Sebastian Hughes Pinan helped steady the ship even as Kenzie Peakman fell for a six-ball duck.

Hughes Pinan found a partner in Scorer to settle the ship and make solid inroads to the target, before scorer was run out for 7 to leave the game on a knife edge.

George Fairbain stuck with Hughes Pinan to the end, and his knock saw Durham over the line as they won by one wicket to maintain a winning start to the season.
