Durham Boys’ Under 18s enjoy comprehensive County Championship victory over Derbyshire with Robbie Bowman (101) and Teddy Minto (5/96) leading the way.

Despite being forced into the field at Hartlepool, the hosts enjoyed a productive morning with the ball. Derbyshire kicked things off with a 47-run opening partnership but things soon went south as they were reduced to 84 for seven by lunch.

Teddy Minto picked up two of the remaining three dismissals as the visitors were bowled out for 103 inside 36 overs.

Wickets were shared around between the Durham seamers with Will Alexander, Zac Mawdsley, Max Percival and Ethan Hill all claiming two scalps each.

Faizan Ghumman (42) and Tom Briggs (72) got the young Ds off to a positive start with a 118-run stand in 24 overs, surpassing Derbyshire’s total without loss.

Three wickets fell for 16 runs but Jim Twiddy (52) and Robbie Bowman added 129 to cement Durham’s strong position.

Durham were 289 for five when Bowman departed but Hill added 64 while Mawdsley (49*) and Isaac Tate also made useful lower order runs as the hosts made it to 494 for nine before declaring with a first innings lead of 391.

Three wickets fell in the opening 20 overs with 75 runs on the board before Zak Kelly and Theo Brown put the brakes on with a partnership of 172.

Teddy Minto dismissed Kelly caught and bowled for 99 to break the stand as the visitors closed day two on 272 for four.

Durham enjoyed a positive start to the third day claiming three wickets for five runs with Minto striking twice.

Brown held firm though as he reached three figures from 144 balls and went on to score 164.

His resistance was broken with the score on 391, bowled by Twiddy. Durham then wrapped up the Derbyshire innings on 404 with two wickets in two balls; one apiece for Twiddy and Minto.

Minto was the pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 5/96 with five maidens in 30.1 overs.

Faizan Ghumman struck four boundaries as Will Gidman’s side wrapped chased down their target in nine balls before reaching tea on day three.
