Player of the Month – August 2019

Alex Lees

Alex Lees put in an outstanding performance with the bat earlier in the month when Durham went up against Leicestershire at Emirates Riverside in the Specsavers County Championship. Lees scored a magnificent 181 from 265 balls including 26 fours as Durham declared on 544/9. The left-hand batsman continued his form with the bat this summer, adding to his overall career runs tally of 5956 in first class cricket.

Brydon Carse

Brydon Carse produced career best figures with the ball in Durham’s County Championship fixture against Leicestershire to claim figures of 6/63 from 20 overs. Brydon overtook his previous best of 5/43 when he had Will Davis caught by Nathan Rimmington for one. The 24-year-old also made a useful contribution with the bat scoring a 69 ball 43 batting at 10.

D’Arcy Short

D’Arcy has had another successful month in the Vitality Blast scoring 226 runs topping the PCA MVP rankings for the majority of the month. The left-hand batsman’s top score came against Derbyshire scoring 68 from 48 balls as the Ds won by seven runs at The Pattonair County Ground. The 29-year-old scored 50 against Birmingham Bears and 42 against Worcestershire and has also been very useful with the ball with his slow left-arm chinaman. D’Arcy topped the batting statistics for Durham this summer with 483 runs at an average of 43.90.

Matthew Potts

20-year-old Matthew Potts has been a key part of Durham’s T20 Vitality Blast campaign which has seen him finish the summer as Durham’s leading wicket taker with 17 wickets throughout, having been in the top 10 wicket takers throughout the country as the Blast season was underway.  Matthew struck with career best figures against Worcestershire Rapids, with 3/22 from three overs surpassing his previous best of 3/28. The former academy graduate also bowled the final over against Derbyshire, with Durham coming out on top by seven runs. Potts rounded off Durham’s summer in T20 with 2/18 from four over against Notts Outlaws on Friday evening as Durham by 47 runs.
