Durham Cricket are thrilled to announce that David Bedingham will return to the Club for the 2027 season.
Bedingham has signed a one-year contract extension with the North East county, remaining a Durham player for an eighth straight summer.
The South Africa international made history becoming the Club’s joint-highest County Championship century maker – on 21 hundreds – scoring 122 against Gloucestershire in Chester-le-Street in August.
Having passed 5,500 first-class runs in Durham whites at an average nearing 58, Bedingham racked up 1,029 red ball runs across the 2026 campaign – passing one thousand runs in a season for the fourth time – adding five centuries.
The 32-year-old wrote his name in the county’s record books when he scored 279 against Lancashire in Chester-le-Street, achieving the Club’s highest individual first-class score on his way to 1,331 County Championship runs in 2024.
During his time in the North East, Bedingham has earnt his first call up with the Proteas appearing on 15 occasions for his nation, also earning deals with Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20.
On his extension, Bedingham said: “I’ve always said I’ve enjoyed my time here so having one more year is quite cool. I have really enjoyed my six years here, so I am glad Durham offered me the chance to come back next year.
“I came here in 2020 but then Brexit happened, and I became an overseas player, so I am very lucky that Durham have kept faith with me for the long term. I owe the club a lot and I’m very thankful that they’ve signed me since 2020.
“The personal goals are quite cool, but I think that we have a squad now that hopefully can win Division Two and going into next year hopefully fight for a title; that’s probably the most important thing.
“My main goal, rather than runs and milestones, is to win a Division One title for Durham, that would be really, really special.”
Head Coach Ryan Campbell said: “It is fantastic news that David has committed to another year with us at Durham Cricket.
“Bedders has been a key figure for us over a number of years since joining the Club, and he has once again performed exceptionally this summer.
“His record in a Durham shirt continues to impress and is now up there with the very best overseas talent to play for Durham.
“He is an integral part of our environment and fits perfectly with our positive style of cricket we play.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing him play a key role in Durham’s success throughout 2027 and wish him the best of luck with South Africa over the coming months.”
