Skills Profile Day held for Academy and county age group players as 2020 season comes to a close

With the 2020 cricket season complete, our Academy and pathway coaches have already began preparing for the 2021 season, holding a skills profiling day at Durham School.

Players from across the boys’ county age group teams and Academy team were invited to Durham School at the end of September in order for the coaching team to gather further information on the club’s young pace bowlers, spinners and wicket keepers.

The skills profiling day enabled the Durham Cricket pathway coaches to produce winter plans on what the youngsters can work on throughout the winter coaching sessions and moving into the 2021 season.

Durham Cricket Academy director, John Windows said: “This is an exciting day for our young players, we have a wide range of staff here offering technical coaching and to do it here at Durham School is excellent. From a development point of view, days like this are really important so we can get some real quality footage off run ups going into the winter.”

Assistant Lead High performance coach, Neil Killeen was also involved in the skills profiling day, he added: “ We’ve got the iPad and speed gun set up here at Durham School which links in together, we take two angles from the rear and the open side, we look at things in their action such as speed indicators, what their speeds are, action indicators to see if their action is safe and then looking at further actions to help them develop that action.”

Cole Pearce was involved with the wicket keepers throughout the day, he said: “We have videoed all our wicket keepers who have been here today, this gives us a further idea to see where they are at with their game and gives the lads the chance to watch themselves back to see where they think they can develop. Today will give the lads information on what they can work on throughout the winter period and leading up to next season.”
