Harriet Robson and Trudy Johnson star for Durham Women’s Academy in 2-run Warwickshire defeat

Harriet Robson scores century, backed up Trudy Johnson’s 92 as Durham Women’s Academy got underway in the 2025 ECB Women’s 50-over League with a 2-run defeat against Warwickshire at Alnmouth & Lesbury.

Ebony Tweats won the toss for the visitors and inserted Durham into the field. Trudy Johnson got the hosts off to a fast start, taking a wicket second ball.

Warwickshire followed this up with a stand worth 50 before Tweats was caught behind on 30 off Kate Million.

The Bears continued to provide regular partnerships as they went on to score 328 for nine in their 50 overs with Meg Austin scoring a standout 108 from 81 balls, backed up by 41 from A Clive and Malisha Tennakoon’s unbeaten 38.

Johnson, Million and Emily Whiting claimed two wickets each as Freya Rook and Laura Trotter took one apiece.

Harriet Robson led the way in response for Durham as she made 122 from 103 balls, featuring 22 boundaries, with Durham 194 for three by the time Robson was out.

Johnson held the innings together as the Ds began to lose regular wickets, falling to 234 for six. Johnson’s innings of 92 came from 70 deliveries and included 13 fours as she took Durham to within 16 runs of victory with nine balls remaining.

Despite the best efforts of Olivia Miller, Trotter and Million, Durham fell three runs short of their target of 329.

Griffiths stood out with the ball for the visitors, claiming figures of 4/47 as Hannah Hardwick, Tennakoon and Tweats took one wicket each.
