Half-centuries for Luke Symington & Hugo Croft as Durham boys’ under 18s win one from four in the T20 County Cup

Luke Symington and Hugo Croft both scored half-centuries as Durham boys’ under 18s took one win from four at the ECB T20 County Cup in York.

Faizan Ghumman top scored with 45 in Durham’s opening game against Yorkshire and was supported by Symington and Jim Twiddy as the Ds posted 107/6 in 20 overs. Brett Hutchinson took a pair of wickets in response but Durham fell to defeat by seven wickets to The Tykes.

It was Derbyshire next up and the Young Ds managed to set their opponents 175 to win with Croft striking a brisk unbeaten half-century from 30 balls before Matthew Robinson blitzed 33* from seven balls. Hutchinson and Symington took a wicket apiece either side of a pair of scalps for Twiddy but Rohan Vallabhaneni’s 92 not out saw Derbyshire over the line on DLS.

Durham picked up a win over Nottinghamshire in game three. Bowling first, Hugo Croft’s 3/17 and 2/19 from Robinson helped the Ds restrict the Gold and Greens to 148 for eight.  Symington led the way with 55 from 28 deliveries featuring six maximums alongside three fours. Croft and Ghumman managed to guide Durham to victory by six wickets in the penultimate over.

Durham faced Leicestershire in their final group fixture and chose to bowl first. Robinson, Zac Mawdsley and Teddy Minto took two wickets each as the Foxes were limited to 138 for nine. Robinson top scored with 25 in response but Leicestershire went home with a convincing 53-run win.
