Laura Trotter takes four wickets as Durham Women closed out pre-season with victory by 56 runs over Durham UCCE at the Racecourse.
Emma Marlow won the toss and chose to bat first but found herself and opening partner Leah Dobson out early as Libby Haward struck twice in the opening seven overs.
Durham made 48 for two from the opening eight overs, with Phoebe Turner dismissed two overs later for 26. Mia Rogers and Sophia Turner were out soon after as the visitors found themselves 78 for five.
Grace Thompson and Katie Levick staged a recovery, sharing 55 for the sixth wicket before Levick fell caught and bowled for 20. Thompson made her way to 43, featuring six boundaries as she top scored for Dani Hazell’s side.
The hosts grabbed two quickfire wickets as Thompson fell stumped three balls before Abi Glen was caught with Durham 150 for eight.
Trudy Johnson rallied, scoring an unbeaten 35 alongside Laura Trotter and Freya Rook as Durham reached 212 by the time Rook was caught and bowled in the 37th.
Amelia Lee took three wickets for the hosts with Charlotte Stubbs, Emily Thomas and Haward claiming two apiece and Hannah Wooldridge grabbing one.
Thompson made a fast start with the ball, finding an edge in the first over with the hosts yet to score.
After a partnership of 24, Phoebe Turner took the second for Hazell’s side in the 11th with Johnson taking the catch. Levick then joined in on the action, trapping Frances Lonsdale in front with the hosts on 34.
Emma Thompson and Stubbs put on a partnership of 88 for the fourth wicket before Laura Trotter made the breakthrough, the latter chopping on for 47.
Durham struck a further three times in quick succession, with Marlow picking up a pair of wickets either side of Trotter’s second scalp.
Trotter grabbed a third wicket, striking top of off Lee’s off stump before combining with Phoebe Turner for her fourth. Johnson then rounded off the victory, bowling Rosie Speedy as Durham secured victory by 56 runs.
