Durham boys’ Under 15s defeat North Yorkshire in consecutive T20s

Durham boy’s under 15’s recorded back-to-back victories over Yorkshire North with Finlay Barlow, Rohan Vagadia and Owen Harwood all impressing at Richmond Cricket Club. 

Finlay Barlow won the toss for Durham and chose to bat in the opening encounter. Durham fell 26 for two as Jacob Hindmarsh and James Minto fell. Vagadia joined Luke Symington as they shared a 39-run partnership to take Durham to 65 for three.

Ross Abdy joined Vagadia and helped take Durham to 95, when Vagadia was run out for Durham’s top score of 34. Abdy was the next to go, for 28, with the score on 124; Durham finished 140 for six from 20 overs.

Durham did not allow Yorkshire North region to get away, striking regularly with Finlay Barlow ending with four wickets. Joe Birks was the first to fall, he was stumped with the score on five.

Owen Harwood took the wicket of Alex Garner Steel before Finlay Barlow took two wickets to leave Yorkshire North 19 for four. Charlie Burdon struck next to leave his opponents 26 for five.

A cluster of wickets then fell as Yorkshire North fell from 37 for five to 39 for eight. Barlow then went on to take two further wickets to finish with four; Yorkshire North were bowled out for 51 with three overs remaining, giving Durham an 89-run victory.

In the follow-up Yorkshire North won the toss and decided to bat, a decision captain Joe Birks may have regretted when he was dismissed for one by Jack Turner in the second over. Turner took another wicket to leave Yorkshire North 31 for three.

Will Pattison was run out by Vagadia to end a 24-run partnership, putting Yorkshire North 55 for four. Vagadia went on to claim two wickets, with Turner collecting another to disrupt the Yorkshire side as they finished on 100 for nine.

Durham went on to knock off Yorkshire’s total comfortably with eight wickets remaining; Owen Harwood made Durham’s highest top score with an unbeaten 43. Vagadia made 30 and Barlow 21.
