Durham Cricket Foundation Launches New Development Workshops for Women’s Softball Players

Following unprecedented growth in women’s softball cricket across the region, Durham Cricket Foundation is launching a new series of practical development workshops for players.

The workshops will focus on three key areas of the game – batting, bowling and fielding, with each session combining practical drills, game-based learning and opportunities for participants to put their skills into practice.

The sessions will be delivered by experienced coaches, with Durham Cricket Foundation’s Marsha Davies, Head of Female Participation, leading the batting and fielding workshops alongside Laura Trotter, Cricket Development Coach and right-arm seam bowler and batter in the Durham Women’s/Academy setup.

The sessions have been shaped by feedback from women already playing softball cricket, helping ensure the workshops support the areas players would most value additional development in.

The women’s softball game has continued to grow across the region this season, with 92 teams taking part in 781 games so far in 2026. The workshops will give players an additional opportunity to develop their skills away from match play.

Marsha Davies, Head of Female Participation at Durham Cricket Foundation, said “Women’s softball cricket has grown enormously across the region and as that community continues to develop, we want to make sure there are opportunities for players to keep developing too.”

“These workshops are about giving women dedicated time to work on different parts of their game, ask questions and build their confidence alongside other players.

“We’ve listened to the feedback from women taking part in softball cricket and these workshops are a direct response to what players have told us they would like more support with.”

Each workshop costs £10 per session and is open to women looking to develop their softball cricket skills, whether they are looking to build confidence in a particular area of their game or simply want more opportunities to practise and learn.

The three practical workshops will take place at Belmont School, The Links, Durham, DH1 2AG, at 6-8pm with places already filling up fast across all three sessions.

The sessions are:
