Durham Cricket Boys’ Academy cruise past Normanby Hall in NYSD Macmillan Cup

Durham Cricket Academy got their North Yorkshire South Durham Macmillan Cup campaign underway with a 76 run victory over Normanby Hall Cricket Club.

The home side won the toss and asked Durham Academy to bat at Cricket Lane, Middlesbrough. Alfie Street struck early for Normanby Hall when he bowled Ben McKinney for 12 with Chris Witherley dismissing Luke Doneathy for 10 shortly after.

Having lost two wickets within 3 overs, Jonny Bushnell and Tom Mackintosh shared a stand of 80 runs guiding Durham to 122/3, when Tom Mackintosh was caught and bowled for 45, five runs of his half century by Usman Arshad.

Jonny Bushnell top scored for Durham’s young guns with 64 from 52 balls which included four 4s and one six, as Durham posted 152/4 from 20 overs.

Normanby Hall were under the pump from the off as two wickets from Stanley McAdlindon and Joe Defty saw the home side reduced to 11/2.

A run-out from Defty then saw Rashad Rashid sent back to the pavilion for 6, followed by Mitchell Killeen bowling Talib Ramaz first ball for 0.

At 25/5, Durham Academy were in complete control, and wickets continued to fall. A 41 run partnership between Usman Arshad and Hasan Razza was the only positive for the hosts, before Arshad went hit wicket for 28 to Jack Scott.

Stanley Mcalindon picked up two late wickets as he returned figures of 3/9 from 4 overs, with Joe Defty (2/12), Mitchell Killeen (2/20) and Jack Scott (1/22) all striking. The home side closing their 20 overs on 76/9, as Durham Academy won by 76 runs.

Durham Cricket Academy will now face Thornaby in the quarter final on Thursday 27 May at 6pm.
