Ds Abroad: Graham Clark stars with bat and ball in Auckland University win

Graham Clark helped Auckland University to a 50-run victory over Eden Roskill Cricket Club in the Auckland Cricket Association fifty over competition.

Clark made his way to the crease in the fourth over and with wickets falling around him stood firm at Keith Hay Park. Scoring 74, Clark faced 77 balls with eight fours and one six backed by an unbeaten 119 from Jonathan Low as Auckland University closed their 50 overs on a competitive 298/8.

Eden Roskill Cricket Club made a steady start in reply at 61/1 with Swayam Desai (38) and Syed Mujtaba (25) at the crease. Both fell to Patel and Jasmat, with Jeet Patel claiming 4/30 from 10 overs. Clark trapped Oyishik Chakraborty LBW for 18 which began a tumble in wickets before Clark picked up the final wicket to dismiss Prahaladh Ram Venkatsubramanian for 248. Picking up figures of 2/37 from 5.2 overs.

Upper Hut United suffered a rare defeat in their latest Rothbury Capital City T20 fixture against Eastern Suburns at Basin Reserve Wellington. Eastern Suburns won the toss and elected to field with Liam Trevaskis coming to the crease in the first over of the innings as Callum McLachlan was caught behind first ball for 0. Batting at three Trevaskis scored 36 from 34 balls with four fours and one six, top scoring as Upper Hut posted 130/7 from 20 overs. Nishant Desai (32) and Thomas Jones (24) both contributed to their innings total.

Opening the bowling, Trevaskis continued to perform well with the ball, claiming his first wicket after 2.5 overs dismissing Lauchie Jones for eight, rounding off with figures of 2/17 from four. Wickets continued to fall but it was Olly Batchelor who helped his side get over the line with an unbeaten 67 from 47 balls, as Upper Hutt went down by five wickets.

Jack Burnham continued where he left off last weekend, top scoring for Johnsonville with 63 in their Rothbury Capital City T20 fixture against Petone-Eastbourne Cricket Club. Burnham rescued his side after they found themselves 41/4, with a valuable innings to help them reach 159/7 from 20 overs.

Petone-Eastbourne Cricket Club took advantage of the Johnsonville bowlers to reach 100 for the loss of two wickets and in control of the fixture, but once Nottinghamshire all-rounder Liam Patterson-White fell for 67 and Jarod Pike for 23, a middle order collapse began.

A vital 20 run partnership from Ben Saunders and Wade McKenzie manged to see Petone-Eastbourne over the line with one ball remaining to win by four wickets.

Cameron Bancroft’s top score of 32 wasn’t enough to get the Perch Scorchers over the line against Melbourne Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Saturday’s BBL fixture. The Scorchers lost Josh Inglis for 12, with Bancroft and Liam Livingstone putting 30 runs on the board for the second wicket.

Liam Livingstone fell shortly after for 18 followed by Mitchell Marsh for 11 in the 10th over. Requiring 40 to win Bancroft fell for 32 and with wickets continuing to fall Melbourne Stars crept to victory by 10 runs, being restricted to 141/6 from 20 overs. Nic Maddinson was the pick of the bowlers for the Stars with 3/24 from four overs.

Durham Academy cricketers Rory Hanley and Tom Mackintosh were in action for Scotland under-19s in their opening World Cup fixture against Pakistan in Potchefstroom. Scotland won the toss and elected to bat, but were blown away by the Pakistan bowlers, being dismissed for 75 in 24 overs.

Durham’s Tom Mackintosh was one of only two batters to reach double figures as Pakistan’s Muhammad Waseem claimed 5/12 in a dominating spell of bowling. Despite losing three wickets, Pakistan had no trouble in chasing down 76, claiming the win with 38 overs to spare. Scotland return to World Cup action on Tuesday 21 January to face Bangladesh.
