Ds Abroad: Carse impresses, Bedingham continues fine form, and de Leede in the runs and wickets

As the winter months arrive, several of the Durham squad will head overseas to continue playing cricket ahead of the 2025 season.

The opportunity to head overseas enables members of the Durham squad to spend a full winter playing cricket in different conditions in addition to gaining valuable experience.

A regular feature on the Durham website throughout the winter will be recapping how the Durham players get on.

Ben Stokes, Matthew Potts and Brydon Carse have all been in action in Pakistan during October as England suffered 2-1 defeat away from home.

Carse, playing in his Test series debut impressed from the off. He was England’s most threatening bowler, bowling with real hostility and skill on pitches that offered minimal assistance for the quicks. He picked up 9 wickets in the series, bowling fast spells. Matthew Potts also shone on the ball playing in his first overseas Test match. The Durham seamer claimed 3 wickets, but bowling in belting heat he bowled well alongside Carse. Stokes, Potts and Carse will be back in Test action later this month whey they travel to New Zealand.

Durham skipper Hollie Armitage has returned to Australia to feature for the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League. With three games played so far in the WBBL, Hollie has featured in all three of the Sixers games scoring 30 in an opening game win against Melbourne Renegades.

David Bedingham scored 59 for South Africa as they hammered Bangladesh in Chittagong by an innings and 273 runs. Bedingham smashed 59 off 78 balls hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes as his fine year continues.

Bas de Leede was in action at the weekend as the Netherlands suffered a 26 run defeat to the United Arab Emirates in the ICC CWC League 2. Bas picked up 1 wicket with 1/25 from 8 overs and went onto star with the bat. De Leede top scored with 66 from 86 balls, starring with Scott Edwards. The pair put on 100 for the fourth wicket, but once they both fell the Dutch lost wickets frequently, slipping to 214 all out chasing 241.
