D’Arcy Short arrives at Emirates Riverside

With the Vitality Blast fast approaching, one of the most exciting talents in world cricket has arrived at Emirates Riverside.

D’Arcy Short is one of the best openers in the shortest format of the game on the planet –– and you can watch him at Durham this season with season tickets on sale now.

The Big Bash League 07 and 08 player of the tournament will join fellow Aussie Cameron Bancroft as Durham’s overseas players for the 2019 Blast campaign.

Short made his T20 debut for the Hobart Hurricanes during the 2016/17 Big Bash League season – scoring 61 off 29 balls in his first appearance.

He ended the campaign averaging 24.75 and scoring 198 runs in eight matches, but it was the 17/18 season that his reputation skyrocketed.

In 11 appearances Short amassed a BBL record 572 runs at an average of 57.32, scoring four half centuries and a mammoth 122* against the Brisbane Heat – which set a BBL individual high score record.

A year later Short was breaking records again in an extended format of the BBL. In 15 appearances the Katherine-born Australian totalled 637 runs to once again top the competition’s scoring charts – at an average of 67.62 with six half centuries.

He helped the Hobart Hurricanes top the rankings with 10 wins before his side lost in the semi-finals to the Melbourne Stars.

The left-handed opener has played 62 matches to date in his T20 career averaging 37.75 with 16 half centuries and a lone century. He is also a handy bowler taking 21 wickets with his left-arm leg spin.

Internationally, Short has represented Australia in the T20 format on 20 occasions, averaging 32.88 with four half centuries – and taken three wickets with the ball.

“D’Arcy is a very, very good T20 cricketer who has represented Australia in this format,” said Durham skipper Bancroft.

“He offers a lot of firepower with the bat and has also matured a lot as a T20 player over the last few years; he’s always got the ability to hit big but he can also hit gaps and run well between the wickets, which you need to be able to do.

“The components of his batting have really come on to the next level and he’ll be looking to come here and make runs and also contribute with the ball.

“He offers some really handy left-arm chinaman deliveries and at Emirates Riverside with the big boundaries and if the wicket is looking a little tired and a little bit of turn appears then he can play a big role and he’s a quality fielder as well. Looking forward to him arriving in the North.”

The Club have frozen season ticket prices for the Vitality T20 at £70 for adults and just £20 for a junior membership – which gets juniors into all formats played at the Emirates Riverside.

They can be purchased on the official Durham website or by calling the Box Office on 0844 499 4466. Individual match tickets are also available.
