Charlotte Stubbs shines with bat and ball as Women’s Academy begin T20 campaign with Glamorgan defeat

Charlotte Stubbs shines with bat and ball as Durham Academy begin T20 campaign with defeat at Banks Homes Riverside.

In the opening match of the double header, Harriet Robson won the toss and put the visitors into the field but two early strikes from Katy Cobb had Durham in trouble at 15 for two.

Glamorgan continued to pick up wickets as Durham were unable to support Stubbs- who struck 42 from 33 deliveries but fell amongst a cluster of strikes as the hosts were reduced to 92 for eight.

Durham could only add a further 14 before being dismissed by the visitors. Cobb finished with impressive figures of 3/12, supported by Poppy Walker’s two strikes and one wicket apiece for Sara Phillips and Megan Janczewski.

There were two early strikes for Freya Rook to give Durham hope of an unlikely victory but a 53-run third wicket stand all but put an end to the hosts’ hopes of victory.

Stubbs removed Bea Ellis before a sharp inswinger saw the England U19 international take wickets in consecutive balls.

Glamorgan navigated their way to a comfortable six-wicket victory inside 15 overs with an unbeaten 25-run partnership.

In the second match, Glamorgan chose to bat first. Prarthana Reddy led the way with an unbeaten 54 as the visitors made their way to 125 for six in their 20 overs.

Grace Thompson, Laura Trotter, Mae Deaville, Rook and Stubbs all took one wicket each before persistent rainfall denied Durham the chance to bat, with the points being shared.
