Boys’ Academy win low scoring contest over Lanchester

Durham Academy pipped Lanchester by six runs in their latest North East Premier League Banks Salver contest, to make it two wins in two in the competition.

The Academy youngsters won the toss and elected to bat, but soon found themselves on the back foot, as some tight bowling from Kieran Gohery, saw the Academy reduced to 1/3.

Despite losing three quick wickets, Rhys Ditta stood firm with 37 from 59 balls including three fours and one six while Ben McKinney scored a valuable 32 from 52 balls with four fours.

Batting at nine Stanley McAlindon contributed with 21, as the Academy were bowled out for 124 in 32.3 overs.

In reply, Durham got off to the ideal start, as McAlindon and Mitchell Killeen dismissed both of the Lanchester batsman for nought apiece.

Despite losing two early wickets a 60-run partnership from Gohery and Kieran Milburn, had the Ashley Park side in the driving seat for victory, but once both were dismissed the game was in the balance.

Needing 25 to win and five wickets in hand the game was still in the home side’s favour, but Killeen and McKinney dismissed the final four Lanchester batsman, along with Jack Scott forcing a run out – as the Academy edged home by six runs, bowling the hosts out in 32.1 overs.

Opening bowlers, Mitchell Killeen (4/11) and Stanley McAlindon (2/29) rounded off with impressive figures, while Jack Scott and Ben McKinney both struck.
