Durham Cricket are disappointed to announce that Nathan Sowter will leave the club at the end of the season departing the county with one-year remaining on his contract.
Following the recent birth of his first child, Sowter expressed his interest to be released out of his Durham contract with 12 months to go in order to play cricket closer to home in the South of England.
Having joined the Club in 2022 from Middlesex, Sowter has enjoyed a successful five years in the North East claiming 80 T20 wickets and is the fourth leading wicket taker in Durham’s short form history.
He picked up 24 wickets during the 2023 season, the most wickets in a Durham T20 campaign, surpassing 22 taken by Usman Arshad in 2015.
His 24 wickets came at 14 as he claimed his maiden T20 five wicket haul of 5/15 against Northamptonshire Steelbacks.
Sowter picked up his 100th T20 wicket in Durham colours when he dismissed Jos Butler and leaves the Club with 196 career T20 wickets.
On his departure from Durham, Sowter said: “I would like to thank Durham for their understanding in allowing me to move closer to my family home in the South East.
“This is hugely important to me since recently becoming a dad.
“I can’t thank Durham and Ryan enough for the support they have given me, they have allowed me to express myself and become the best cricketer I can be.
“Since arriving at the club in 2022, I have loved every minute of my time in the north east.
“It really has been an honour to represent Durham. I leave with lots of great memories and friendships not just on the field but beyond. I wish everyone at the club the very best for the future.”
Head Coach, Ryan Campbell said: “Nathan has been a fantastic member of our playing squad over the past five years.
“Unfortunately for Durham, Sowts has requested to leave so he can be closer to his family in the South of England following the birth of his child.
“We thank him for his contribution and wish him success in the future.”
