Durham Cricket are thrilled to announce that Matthew Potts has signed a three-year contract extension with the Club.
Potts has penned a deal until at least the end of the 2029 season, having joined Durham at 9-years-old progressing through the pathway and Academy set up and going on to make his debut in 2017.
The 27-year-old seamer has 376 wickets across 141 matches for the Club, having taken over 450 scalps in his career.
With 273 first-class wickets for Durham in 68 matches, Potts passed 50 first-class wickets for the 2026 season for the third summer having passed the half-century mark in both 2022 and 2023.
The Sunderland-born cricketer took his best returns of nine for 68 against Lancashire in 2024 with match figures of 12/126, whilst his eight for 66 against Derbyshire in June saw him collect his fourth 10-wicket match haul.
Potts is the Club’s third highest T20 wicket-taker with 87 poles for Durham in the shortest format, including his 5/17 against Yorkshire last season, while his 19 wickets were a Durham high during the 2026 Vitality Blast.
A capable batter, the right-hander made a career best 149 not out against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in April 2024 alongside five red-ball fifties for the County.
Potts has represented England on the international stage across all three formats with 50 wickets in 24 matches, having also featured for Northern Superchargers and MI Cape Town on the franchise circuit.
On his extension, Potts said: It’s obviously great to commit three years to the club that I’ve called home forever. It’s nice to give a period of what would probably be my prime to the club and I feel like it’s the right move going forward.
“I feel like I still have a lot more to give to this club. I owe the club a hell of a lot from early investment through the academy and I hold it dear.
“We are building something within the dressing room, it’s taken a couple of years, but I feel like we’re heading in the right direction. This group is really exciting.
“We have a few games left this year and we want to finish as Division Two champions.
“Next year we want to be pushing to try and win Division One which is the ultimate goal for any county cricketer, and I think this group has the potential to do so.”
