Durham Boys’ Under 18s advance into the quarter-final of the 50-over County Cup with a three-wicket victory over Derbyshire at Clifton.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first and got off to a flyer scoring 21 runs before Max Percival picked up his first wicket in the second over.

Percival struck again in the eighth with Derbyshire on 44, adding a further 11 before the 10-over mark.

Teddy Minto’s introduction to the attack spun the momentum in Durham’s favour as he claimed superb figures of 3/19 from 10 overs.

Minto claimed three wickets in his initial seven-over spell, leading the way in reducing Derbyshire to 93/6.

George Blount offered some resistance for the hosts sharing 67 for the seventh wicket with Harry Temperton.

Blount went on to score 83 from 94 balls putting on 77 with Umayr Hewitt to take Derbyshire to 237.

Percival removed Hewitt on 39 for his third scalp whilst Zac Mawdsley and Ethan Hill as Derbyshire posted 253/9.

Symington was the first batter to fall, making 41 with seven boundaries, with Durham 85 for one in the 12th.

Ghumman led the way for Durham top scoring with 54 from 59 balls featuring nine fours, but when he was dismissed Durham were 127/4 in the 21st.

Will Alexander and Thomas Briggs steadied the ship sharing a patient partnership of 31 from 68 balls.

Alexander made 37 from 60 deliveries but when he and Hill both departed in the 38th, the game hung in the balance with Durham 190/7.

It was left to Mawdsley (36*) and Isaac Tate (29*) to take the Young Ds home as they added 64 from 53 balls striking five sixes, as Durham won with three wickets to spare in the 47th over.
