Ds Abroad: We take a look at the Durham players playing overseas this winter

With pre-season now underway many of the Durham squad are spending their winter in sunnier climates playing overseas. We take a look at members of the squad who are abroad over the coming months.

Brydon Carse will kick off his winter in New Zealand as England take on the Black Caps in a white ball tour,  which precedes the Ashes.  England will play six matches starting on Saturday 18 October with three T20 internationals followed by three One Day internationals.

Ben Stokes, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts and Mark Wood are all named in the Ashes Test squad which will assemble in Perth during the second week of November. The first of the five match Test series will get underway in Perth on 21 November.

Lauren Filer is currently representing England at the ICC Women’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. The tournament runs from 30 September-2 November – with England opening the tournament with three wins from three.

Emilio Gay and Ben McKinney will head to Australia in November as part of the England Lions squad for their winter overseas tour. Gay and McKinney are part of an 18-player squad which will play four games from 13 November in Perth, Canberra and Brisbane.

David Bedingham has returned back to South Africa for the winter to play for Western Province in the South Africa domestic competitions. Ahead of returning to Cape Town, Bedingham is currently in Pakistan as South Africa take on Pakistan in a two-match Test series in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Bedingham will also feature for Durban’s Super Giants in the upcoming SA20 league in 2025/26. The 31-year-old will link up with two-time Betway SA20 winning captain Aiden Markram and begin their campaign on December 26 when they take on defending champions MI Cape Town at Newlands in the competition opener.

Mady Villiers has signed for Sydney Sixers ahead of the 2025/2026 Women’s Big Bash League.Villiers earns her first call up for Australia’s premium domestic T20 competition and will get underway against Perth Scorchers on 9 November at the WACA.

Hollie Armitage will be back in women’s domestic action in Australia throughout the winter, returning to South Australia in the Women’s National Cricket League. Armitage is set for her third stint in Adelaide having had a successful campaign last time out with scores of 50 plus on more than three occasions.

Daniel Hogg (Western Suburbs), Luke Robinson (Swan Valley Cricket Club) and Haydon Mustard  (Murdoch University Melville Cricket Club) will all play Australian Club Cricket in Perth throughout the winter.

Mia Rogers will be based in Melbourne playing for Geelong Cricket Club in the Women’s Premier Competition while Abi Glen is also set for a stint playing club cricket in Australia this winter in Perth with South Perth Cricket Club.

James Minto will travel to the Caribbean as England Under 19s will play five Youth One-Day Internationals against West Indies and two Youth One-Day Internationals against United States in St Vincent. England open up the white ball tour on Thursday 13 November against the USA in St Vincent.

Durham spinner Nathan Sowter has been picked up by Sharjah Warriorz in the 2025 DP World ILT20. Having featured in the tournament previously with Desert Vipers, Sowter will once again get a chance to impress on the franchise circuit. The DP World ILT20 gets underway on Tuesday 2 December and the Sharjah Warriorz’ first match is against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Wednesday 3 December.

Durham bowling all-rounder Katherine Fraser has been named in Scotland’s 14-player squad for the 2025 ICC Emerging Nations Trophy. The Scotland Women’s squad has been named for the forthcoming tournament, taking place in Thailand in November 2025.
