Phoebe Turner scores 53 but Durham Women Second XI fall to defeat against The Blaze in the ECB 2nd XI T20 Competition at Grantham as Michaela Kirk scores unbeaten 105.

Josie Groves won the toss for The Blaze in Grantham and chose to bat first with Ella Claridge and Kirk sharing 67 in eight overs for their opening stand.

Emma Marlow removed Claridge for 28 and took the wicket of Groves in the 12th to keep Durham in the contest at 93 for two.

But Kirk stepped it up a gear, going to her half-century from 39 balls before making her way to three figures in just 63 deliveries, carrying her bat to finish unbeaten on 105 with 19 boundaries.

She was supported by 41 from Georgie Boyce as the Nottingham-based side made 193 from their 20 overs.

In response, Durham lost Marlow without scoring but 26 from Mia Rogers brought a partnership of 33 with Harriet Robson before a flurry of wickets fell.

The visitors lost three wickets in three overs, finding themselves 55 for four. Wickets continued to fall around Phoebe Turner, who found a partner in Emily Whiting at 92/7.

They shared a stand of 57 in 38 balls as Turner made her way to a 30-ball half-century, bringing the landmark up with a maximum with seven boundaries struck alongside.

Turner fell for 53 in the penultimate over and two wickets came about in the final over as the hosts ended up winners by 31 runs.

Hayva Abbott led the way with the ball, claiming three wickets for the hosts as Amy Wheeler and D’Nica Roff took a pair each.
