Ds Abroad: Graham Clark scores 74 in Auckland University big win

Graham Clark top scored for Auckland University Cricket Club as they put in a dominant performance against Papatoetoe Cricket Club to win by 151 runs on Duckworth Lewis stern. Having been asked to bat the home side lost two early wickets, being reduced to 16/2 – however a 147-run partnership between Clark and Ash Vodnala steadied the ship for Auckland. Clark top scored with 74 from 72 balls hitting nine fours backed by 60 from Vodnala, before rain halted play with the home side on 237/9 after 42 overs.

In reply, the visitors lost three early wickets as opening bowler Nick Stobart dismissed the top three Papatoetoe batsman. Despite 22 from Prabjyot Rehal – Papatoetoe couldn’t get going with the bat being bowled out for 95 in 23.3 overs. Stobart claimed 5/24 from 7.3 overs while Caleb Jasmat and Jeet Patel struck with two wickets apiece.

Following on from Cameron Steel’s 138 last week for Claremont-Nedlands – the home side wrapped up their win over Joondalup. Claremont declared on 325/8, before going onto dismiss Joondalup for just 83 runs in 37.1 overs. Mac Hanlin proved key with the ball with a fine spell of 5/28 from 10 overs, along with 3/8 from Daniel Turkich. In their second-innings Joondalup closed on 83/5, with Claremont-Nedlands securing another victory.

Liam Trevaskis continued to score runs in New Zealand, smashing a 34 ball 50 on Sunday against North City Cricket Club in the Premier T20 Cup, first round. Upper Hut United lost the toss and were asked to bat scoring 187/7 from their 20 overs. Logan Slee (45) and Callum McLachlan (29) were also in the runs.  Trevaskis wasn’t needed with the ball as Upper Hut were in complete control dismissing North City for 108. Charlie Wilson (2/17),  Sam Stewart (2/23) and Liam Ferrier (2/34) all struck in their victory.

Michael Jones scored a half century in Scotland’s opening 50 over game in the World Cup League 2 in the United Arab Emirates.  The United States of America batted first scoring 282/8 from 50 overs with Monak Patel top scoring with 82 supported by 74 from Aaron Jones. Scotland lost both openers for 8 and 5 but Michael Jones (52) and Callum MacLeod (82) gave Scotland every chance of securing victory, once both were dismissed Scotland couldn’t get over the line, falling just short on 247 being bowled out in 47.2 overs.

Jack Burnham scored 42 in vain as Johnsonville Cricket Club went down by 15 runs against Eastern Suburbs at Alex Moore Park. Eastern Suburbs posted 212/8 from their 50 overs with Olly Batchelor top scoring with 99 – Jack Burnham returning figures of 2/47 from nine overs.  It was a case of batsman getting in and getting out for Johnsonville with Burnham top scoring with 42 backed by 39 from Liam Burling. Five wickets went down for 15 runs as Johnsonville went down to a 15-run loss.
