Colin Ackermann capped off a successful debut season for Durham by impressing in all formats, earning him the 2024 Player of the Season award. He also made vital contributions across the summer.
Ackermann struck two centuries and two fifties as he put his name in the Durham record books, impressing in Durham’s County Championship middle order as he scored 743 runs at an average of 46.4, passing 11000 first-class runs.
The Dutch International’s best knock of 186 came against Lancashire, batting at six. He set a record for any wicket in Durham’s first-class history partnership at 425 alongside David Bedingham as the pair eclipsed the previous high of 334*.
His glorious knock was comprised of 17 fours and helped Durham from 99/4 to a mammoth 524/5 by the time he was dismissed by Luke Wells.
Ackermann passed 3000 List A runs as he starred during Durham’s Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign, finishing as Durham’s highest run scorer with 316 runs in addition to his eight wickets.
Ackermann made a flying start to the 50-over competition as he raced to a 33-ball 59 as Durham made 344 for four in Durham’s opening game against Lancashire at Sedbergh.
The all-rounder also contributed with the ball, taking figures of 3/37. He bowled George Balderson before taking the wickets of Tom Bruce and George Lavelle in consecutive balls as he verged on a Durham List A debut hat trick as Durham won by 57 runs.
Ackermann’s maiden Durham List A century came in a four-wicket victory over Northamptonshire, scoring 108 from 106 as he led Durham from a vulnerable position at 26/2 in a 133-run partnership alongside Alex Lees.
The South African made two half-centuries for Durham in the T20 Blast with a best of 70 coming in vain against Northamptonshire, reviving Ryan Campbell’s side from a perilous position at 4/3 and leading the side to 140.
Ackermann’s unbeaten 54 from 30 helped confirm Durham’s place in the Blast quarter-finals. He shared an unbroken stand of 88 with Lees as Durham reached 159 for two against Derbyshire Falcons to claim the remaining quarter-final place in the North Group.
