In August 2013, Durham County Cricket Club hosted its first Ashes Test. To commemorate this historic occasion, the Club commissioned David Downes to capture the contest on canvas.

David Downes is one of the most exciting artists of his generation. Formerly artist-in-residence for BBC Heritage, his other recent commissions include the Diamond Jubilee Pageant which can be seen in London’s Savoy Hotel.
