Young: “I can’t wait to head down to Essex and get into it”

New Zealand International batsman Will Young joined Durham this week and expressed his excitement at joining the club.

“It is awesome to be here in Durham, I have done my self isolation got the two negative tests so it is fantastic to be out here and get training with the lads. I can’t wait to head down to Essex and get into it.”

Young, who is playing his first spell for a First Class-County, will be using this opportunity ahead of the Black Caps tour of England later in the summer, he added: “This is great opportunity for me to play some County Championship cricket ahead of New Zealand’s tour of England later in the summer.

“It worked out really well how Durham approached me, and said would I like to play three games for Durham with an eye on the Black caps tour.

“I jumped at the opportunity to play, get used to the conditions and play some County Cricket before jumping up with the Black Caps in a month or so.”

On his arrival, Young had to complete five days quarantine, something he hasn’t been used to in the past.

“Look, I am not used to the self isolation lifestyle coming from New Zealand, but it was only five days, I know the English over here have had a real tough time with it over the last year.

“Look I am outside now and looking forward to getting into it against Essex. Thankfully during that isolation, Durham played their first game, so I was keeping close tabs on the lads. Although they didn’t win the lads put in a good performance and good on them, let’s get into it against Essex.”
