Yorkshire win t20 clash at Headingley

The home side won the toss and elected to field first in damp and dull conditions.  The Dynamos posted 156, with Morkel, Taylor and Stokes each posting scores in the thirties but in response the Durham attack couldn’t break the hosts second wicket partnership between Andrew Gale and Man of the Match, Herschelle Gibbs.

Head Coach, Geoff Cook spoke to durhamccc.co.uk after the game.

“It was a strange game, they batted with real commitment. Gibbs is a real world class player and Gale took his lead from him”, said Cook.

“It was disappointing in as much as we probably didn’t assess the situation as well as we could have as it went on.  It was difficult batting the first three or four overs with Shahzad and Patterson bowling, the ball moved around and at that stage we thought 140-150 would be a decent score but then as our innings went on the wicket got flatter.
“ It was disappointing that several people got 30-odd and got out and that was the difference, we needed to people to take on the responsibility of getting 60-70 to push the score up to 170-180, which was more  reflective of a possible winning score.

“The t20 game, by definition is frantic but within that you’ve got to keep a cool head,  we had two or three situations where people could have been more selective with their shots and gone on to score more and put pressure on their bowlers.

“To be 5/6 wickets down after 12 overs in twenty20 cricket is putting a lot of emphasis on the tail to try and pull you round.  Yorkshire played well today, they took their chance to take wickets and were powerful and assertive with the bat.

“We’ve got 14 people with us at the minute and they’re all potentially fine t20 match winners but we need people to start putting their hands up and do it for us.  We’ve lost two matches and had one rained off, we’ve got to start winning pretty quickly”.
