Seconds unable to force Headingley win

Result: Durham 2nd XI  (363/5d & 242/7d; Davies 63, Pringle 62) drew with Yorkshire 2nd XI (309/6d & 153/5)

Neil Killeen’s 2nd XI failed to force a positive result after spending most of the third day on the front foot against Yorkshire in the Second XI Championship match at Emerald Headingley.

Boosted by 63 from first innings centurion Ryan Davies & 62 from all-rounder Ryan Pringle, Durham were able to declare at lunch & leave Yorkshire a total of 297 for victory inside two sessions.

Pringle’s knock came off 59 balls in a 109-run partnership with Davies before being caught off Jared Warner.

Matthew Potts added an unbeaten 42, making it 104 runs without dismissal in the match after his first innings 62 not out.

Yorkshire made the worst possible start post-lunch, with Matthew Fisher’s promotion to opener lasting three balls before Tom Kohler-Cadmore was trapped LBW by Scotland’s Alasdair Evans after just two balls.

However, Jordan Thompson’s resolute knock of 77 kept their middle order together & despite regular wickets, Durham could not force a win before bad light intervened after 48 overs.

The hosts finished on 153/5 with spinners Pringle & Liam Trevaskis both taking one wicket apiece.

Close, Day Two: Durham 2nd XI (363/5d & 61/2; Pringle 37*) lead Yorkshire (309/6d; Fisher 84; Hartley 4/61) by 115 runs

Four wickets for Charlie Hartley & an unbeaten 37 from Ryan Pringle has put Durham’s 2nd XI in position to force a positive result against Yorkshire Seconds at Emerald Headingley.

They head into the final day leading by 115 runs after Yorkshire declared on 309/6, trailing by 54 on first innings.

Former Kent bowler Hartley impressed with the ball, taking four wickets in 16 overs, & was on a hat-trick in the 47th over after removing Alex Lees & Tom Loten in consecutive balls.

He also clean bowled Tom Kohler-Cadmore & had Jonny Tattersall caught by Liam Trevaskis.

Matthew Fisher top-scored for the hosts with 84, adding 102 for the sixth wicket to allow them to declare.

The early wickets of Ross Greenwell & Scott Steel handed Yorkshire the initiative before Pringle & first innings centurion Ryan Davies added an unbroken 52 partnership at the close.
