Wood set for return at Northants

Pace bowler Mark Wood is set to make his return to the Durham Jets side this evening in the Vitality Blast fixture against Northants Steelbacks at Wantage Road.

Wood has recovered from a foot injury sustained during the Specsavers County Championship match against Gloucestershire & will play his part as the Jets aim for a quarter-final spot for the second time in three years.

The Jets have all-but secured a quarter-final berth, with only a freak set of results from elsewhere – including a huge swing in net-run-rate – could see them knocked out.

A point from the remaining three games would secure progression for Jon Lewis’s side but with home quarter-finals up for grabs for the top two, it’s still all to play for.

Worcestershire Rapids lead the way with 17 points from 11 matches, with the Jets one point behind. Lancashire Lightning are third on 13 after last night’s Roses victory over Yorkshire Vikings, who are fourth on 12.

Tonight’s visit to Northamptonshire is the final away game before home matches against Lancashire (Sunday 12 August) & Derbyshire Falcons (Friday 17 August) to round off the group stage.

Squad vs Northants Steelbacks (10 August)

Tom Latham (c), Graham Clark, Paul Collingwood, Liam Trevaskis, Ryan Davies, Stuart Poynter (wk), Ryan Pringle, Will Smith, James Weighell, Barry McCarthy, Nathan Rimmington, Mark Wood, Chris Rushworth, Ben Whitehead

Last Time Out

Durham Jets (170/4; Collingwood 50*, Clark 29) beat Northants Steelbacks (95; Tahir 4/16, Weighell 2/7, Rimmington 2/20) by 75 runs

Durham Jets made it five wins in a row with a thumping of the Steelbacks last Thursday at Emirates Riverside.

In defence of 170/4, the visitors were rolled out for 95 with Imran Tahir taking 4/16 on what turned out to be his final appearance before departing for the Caribbean Premier League.

There were also two-wicket contributions from James Weighell & Nathan Rimmington, including a wicket maiden for the latter, as the Jets stifled any chance of a chase from the off.

Paul Collingwood scrambled to fifty with three of the final ball of the first innings to back up a solid effort with the bat.

Supported by a number of 20s around him, Collingwood’s knock came off 42 balls & proved the difference as Durham ran out easy winners.
