Will Smith’s thoughts on the Dynamos victory over Notts

Durham captain Will Smith said “It was getting a bit tense at one stage there towards the end, obviously Benks and Blackie played fantastically and got us to a stage where we could really finish the game off.  We let it slip just a little bit but a win’s a win.  We played some great cricket today and if we can take that into tomorrow and further on it would be great.

“The way we started we probably should have kept them to a lower score but we still thought they were probably ten or fifteen below par so we were happy to restrict them to 160, the way Twenty20 games are going these days teams are edging towards 190-200.

“The bowling and fielding was pretty good.  There was a lot in our bowling which was good, to start the tournament so well in that respect in Twenty20 was very pleasing. “

Neil Killeen made his second appearance of the season following his five-for in the Friends Provident Trophy last week and was the pick of today’s bowlers.  “Killer’s experience, his knowhow and his confidence is vital so having him around is great.  He’s always going to bowl four overs for very few and pick up two or three wickets each time.  He’s great to have and the other two seamers bowled very well.” added Smith.

The match went down to the last ball and with the scores level Mitchell Claydon hit it for four claiming victory for Durham.  “We made it harder than it needed to be but like I said, a win is a win and all credit to Mitch, it’s a pretty nerve-wracking position to be in.  We want people who are willing to be in a position where they want to be winning games sometimes players will set it up and ideally they will see it through but if not it’s down to people coming in to finish games off so the more people we have able to do that the better, “ said Smith.
