“It all went wrong from the moment we lost the toss really. The toss is important but you can’t use that as an excuse – we still had to bowl well and field well and we didn’t do either. We didn’t get going with the bat and generally didn’t play well”, said Smith.
“It was a thoroughly professional and clinical approach from Sussex, they just outplayed us. It’s not great being beaten in such a comprehensive manner.
“We’re using this competition to blood a few youngsters as a means of developing a good one day side for the coming years and we’ve had a few ups and downs. We’ve had some good games which have been confidence builders and now we need to bounce back from today’s result”, he added.
