Whitfield, McKinney star in 224 run partnership for Durham U14 Boys

A second wicket partnership of 224 between Ben McKinney and Ross Whitfield saw Durham Under-14 Boys continue their unbeaten run in the ECB Royal London Cup with victory over  Derbyshire.

Durham (302/8; Whitfield 109, McKinney 105; Wanford 4/48) beat Derbyshire (51/4; Killeen 2/2) by 87 runs on Duckworth Lewis.

Durham were asked to bat at Buxton Cricket Club, losing their first wicket at 43, however McKinney and Whitfield led from the front in their second wicket stand of 224 in 30.1 overs.

Ross Whitfield batting at number three scored 109 from 94 balls including 14 fours supported by 105 from Ben McKinney in 123 balls scoring ten fours, as Durham amassed 302/8 from 50 overs.

Heavy rain during the interval delayed the second innings from getting underway, with Derbyshire requiring 139 to win from 20 overs on Duckworth Lewis.

Mitchell Killeen got Durham off to an excellent start dismissing both Derbyshire openers for 0 and 3, as the hosts struggled at 3/2.

Muhammed Yusaf Bin Naeem dug in for 13 from 57 balls, but Owen Butler and Daniel Pollard both struck as Durham won by 87 runs on Duckworth Lewis, Derbyshire closing their 20 overs on 51/4.

Durham sit in first place in the ECB Under-14 Cup Group 1, with one fixture left to play against Lancashire later in August.
