We’re on the right track says Smith

“Graham and Liam were just getting into a nice rhythm just before the shower, Graham got McGrath out and we really fancied getting on a bit of a roll.  Cloud rolled in and we had to put our feet up for a bit and that kind of broke our momentum.  When we came back out the first hit went for a four and the ball got soaking wet so it was always tough to bowl with that then.  Having said that we still thought with the new ball we were in with a shout.

“The bowlers put in all you could ask for.  If we perform like that and bowl like that in the second innings of throughout the season then we will be winning a lot of games”, said captain Will Smith.

Graham Onions was the pick of the Durham attack in the second innings picking up 5-56 off 28 overs including the wickets of Vaughan, Rudolph and McGrath.

“Graham bowled beautifully, he bowled really, really well.  He’s someone who’s looking to further himself and push on for higher honours and if he keeps bowling like that then he’s going to be playing these high level games before long, definitely”, commented Smith.

“From a batting side of things it was very pleasing, especially in the first Championship match of the season, to get three hundred in both innings is particularly pleasing.  It’s the sides that dominate on the last two days that win games and championships at the end of it so if we continue to play like that we’re on the right track.”
