Seconds secure high scoring win at Emirates Riverside

Durham 359/9d & 327/3 (Clark 142, Jones 71, Coughlin 65); beat Leicestershire 335/8d & 327 (Butchart 75, Weighell 3/51, Trevaskis 3/71) by 28 runs.

The Second XI secured a friendly victory over their Leicestershire counterparts on the final day at Emirates Riverside as James Weighell and Liam Trevaskis took three wickets apiece.

Graham Clark extended his tally to 142 before departing off the bowling of Evans before Durham declared for the second time in the game on 327 – a lead of 351.

The Durham bowlers started well reducing the visitors to 147/6 before Bates and Butchart put on a partnership of 113-run to give Leicestershire hope of an unlikely victory.

But Durham fought back in the closing stags with Trevaskis removing Bates before Butchart was run out by a smart piece of fielding by Matt Salisbury for 75.

Ds took the remaining two wickets after a short delay for rain as the hosts made it a first and second team double on Thursday.

An unbeaten century from Graham Clark has Durham in a commanding position on Day Three of the friendly against Leicestershire 2nd XI at Emirates Riverside.

The visitors posted a first inning score of 335/8 declared with Aadil Ali scoring 110 and Harry Dearden contributing with 62 – 24 behind Durham’s 359.

A 150-run opening partnership from Clark and Michael Jones gave the hosts and outstanding platform to build before the latter fell to Ali for 71.

Captain Josh Coughlin combined with Clark to move the score on to 242/1 at close – reaching his half century just before the end of the days play.

James Weighell and Matthew Potts put Durham seconds in a strong position at the close of play on day one of their three-day friendly against Leicestershire at Emirates Riverside.

Weighell and Potts produced a magnificent seventh wicket partnership of 266 as both scored centuries on day one.

Left-handed batsman Weighell top scored with 140 from 190 balls including 16 fours and two sixes while Matthew Potts posted 124 from 182 balls including 15 fours and two sixes.

Ben Mike was on top form with the ball in the morning session as he dismissed Graham Clark and Jonathan Bushnell LBW in the second over of the game.

Sol Bell (28) and Josh Coughlin (23) both made starts in Durham’s recovery, but Mike and Brinder Phagura both struck reducing Durham to 54/ before Weighell and Potts took Durham to a commanding 339/7.

Weighell fell for a well-made 140 which brought the Durham declaration, declaring on 359/9 after 85.1 overs.

With 16 overs to play with before close of play on day one, the Foxes made 67/1 when play was called.

Rory Hanley struck with the wicket, pinning Sam Evans LBW for 6, but Jack Nightingale (37) and Harry Dearden (15) finished not out for Leicester.
