Thorp and Harmison quizzed by local schools

Ben Harmison

Pupils from St John’s primary school, Shildon and Cleves Cross primary school, Ferryhill were visited by Ben Harmison and Brandon primary school was joined by Callum Thorp in their respective sessions.  The children, who had spent some time researching the playing staff before they arrived, interviewed the players before writing up their findings.

During their weekly sessions the children also wrote, filmed and edited a sports bulletin about Durham CCC in the Media Centre, using an actual studio facility and the latest audio visual equipment.

The final part of the afternoon gets the children to take part in a training session where they were able to use any tips they picked up from the players during their interviews!

Each school attends afternoon sessions once a week for a duration of ten weeks, where they spend time in the classroom facility and one hour receiving coaching.

Community Coach, Richard Hopper, said, “The players really enjoy going along to be interviewed by the children and their presence in the sessions really makes the school’s visit memorable.  The sessions are a great opportunity, not only for the players to get involved with our community programmes, but also to develop the skills and confidence of school pupils.”
