Teddy Minto takes eight wickets while Thomas Briggs is in the runs (103 & 65) as Durham Boys’ Under 18s hold firm against Nottinghamshire at Lady Bay.
After opting to bowl first in their third County Championship match of the season, Durham struggled with the hosts piling on 519/8 before declaring on the opening day.
Toby Lambert struck an unbeaten 187 for Notts while Josh Beer also passed into three figures with his 110.
Minto claimed Durham’s best figures with 4/81 with Will Alexander picking up a pair of wickets alongside one apiece for Henry Baldam and Ethan Hill.
Jim Twiddy added 78 in an opening stand worth 152 alongside Briggs – who reached three figures from 134 balls having struck 12 fours and three sixes as the Young Ds made a strong start to their response.
Robbie Bowman then made a quickfire unbeaten 81 from just 51 balls, blitzing eight fours and six maximums before Will Gidman’s side declared on 353/4 with a deficit of 166 at tea on the second day.
The runs flowed in the second innings for the hosts as they racked up a 132-run opening partnership before Minto claimed the first breakthrough.
Nottinghamshire made their way to 262/2 with Oliver Henshaw scoring 127 before a cluster of wickets saw the hosts declare on 286/6, with a lead of 452 before lunch on day three.
Minto’s 4/29 help Durham apply the brakes with Zac Mawdsley and Twiddy sharing two scalps.
The Ds lost Faizan Ghumman early but Twiddy and Briggs stabled matters with a 61-run second-wicket partnership.
Briggs made 65 from 70 with 11 fours and a six but when he departed, Durham were 114/5 having lost four wickets for 38.
Owen Harwood and Alexander shared 104 as the visitors steadied the ship, going on to share the points in Nottingham.
Owen Harwood produced 57 not out from 98 balls while Alexander’s 37* came from 99 balls with the draw being called at 5pm.
