T20 viral wins RTS award

The commercial, which was produced by north east based company Dene Communications, saw Graham Onions bowling to Will Smith, with the resulting shot whizzing out of the stadium past various regional landmarks, including the Angel of the North and the River Wear.

The director, Mark Lediard, said, “I had great fun making that last year (I still have the ball we used – it’s a bit scuffed though!). All the staff and players at Durham CCC that day were wonderfully helpful and professional, particularly Will and Graham who did just what we asked them to do in the very short time we had. Graham’s expression of disgust at the end still cracks me up – one take and perfect.

“I’m looking forward to the new season and perhaps the chance to do something for the club again.”

On the category nominees, the judges said:  “Three strong entries. Superkrush Films’ promotion for the new Great North Museum made it a magical place, full of expectation and fantasy, and MAM from Mallinson Television was powerfully thought-provoking. But the Durham County Cricket Club viral from Dene Films showed real creativity on a limited budget, and we were unanimous in making it the winner.“
