Sussex Sharks v Durham Dynamos – Latest News

Head Coach Geoff Cook has selected the same side that played at Bristol.  Will Gidman makes his second one day appearance this weekend.  Sid the Shark and the Sussex mascot joined the two captains on the field for a pre match photo before the Durham side took to the field for the Sharks innings, with Will Smith leading the way.

MItchell Claydon and Liam Plunkett open the bowling for Durham as the wind howls around the ground.  The press box actually shudders with each gust of wind!  Will Gidman comes on to bowl in the tenth over, with Sussex restricted to 46.  In their match against Surrey Brown Caps yesterday, which Sussex won by two runs, both sides hit the 300 mark.  

There was a slight delay in play when the ball got lost under the covers after being hit for four but after an extensive search by the groundstaff and a few of the Durham side play resumed.

The start of Stephen Harmison’s spell in the tenth over signalled the first block of powerplay overs,  Sussex reached the hundred mark in the 18th over.  The first breakthrough came in the 21st over when Gatting was caught by Mustard off the bowling of Blackwell just after celebrating his fifty.

At the half way mark Sussex were 135-5.  Wright was out for 20 when Benkenstein caught him on the boundary off the bowling of Breese on the 30th over.

Will Gidman bowled Murray Goodwin for 16 on the 37th over.  Mitchell Claydon picked up the wicket of Yardy when he was caught by Gidman for 27.  Centurian Ed Joyce was caught by Gordon Muchall off the bowling of Ian Blackwell on 127.

Stephen Harmison bowled Rory Hamilton-Brown for 19 in the 58th over with Sussex 296-6.  Sussex finished their innings with 313 on the board.

Michael Di Venuto and Phil Mustard kick start the Durham innings putting 38 on the board in the first eight overs.  Diva was trapped lbw off Martin Jenkins for 32.  Hamilton Brown claimed the wicket of Will Smith who was caught at long off by Damien Wright on 30.

After 32 overs Durham were 183-2 and required 131 runs to win.  Kirtley picked up the wicket of Phil Mustard after he was caught by Hamilton-Brown on 92.  Ian Blackwell was run out in the 36th over after adding 29 to the Durham total, Gordon Muchall put 20 on the board before falling to the same fate.

Gareth Breese was bowled by Kirtley for 3, Kirtley also claimed the wicket of Benkenstein after he was caught by Arafat for 23.  Liam Plunkett was his next victim after being bowled for 3. 

Mitchell Claydon was caught by Beer of the bowling of Kirtley, who picked up his sixth wicket of the day when he bowled WIll Gidman for 8.Sussex won by 56 runs.
